As far as I know,CCAC does not treat the dogs for tapeworm, because many dogs from there seem to have them, at least the ones I've pulled for rescue. Worms cause diarrhea which can cause the workers to withhold food hoping the dog gets better, or in order to avoid having to clean up.The vet does spay and neuter, but treating worms should also be done, which would help the dog keep the weight on, and there won't be a reason to withhold food.(witholding food doesn't rid worms-I'm just stating what I've heard).

All of your opinions mean zip- same for your observations. Get an employee off to one side and you'll hear the truth. But they won't publish it because they know they'll be reprimanded, lose pay or be fired. It's already happened. It's a big coverup at CCAC- believe it. A good show for the public. They are killing dogs whenever it suits them- two JR's just killed that had rescue. It happens all the time. If that vet is ethical she knows what's happening and should be telling the truth.
Get rid of DB and JP and SW. Cruel people.

I have also visited this shelter many times, and I am always struck by how well the animals are kept. It is well-lit, extremely clean, and the animals are in excellent condition, given their circumstances. It is one of the few shelters that has a full-time vet on staff. And best of all, they don't keep a "death row" the way some county shelters do. A dog has a fighting chance there, unlike other places. The Cobb shelter has kept dogs as long as six months or more in hopes they would find loving homes. I've seen dogs that were too stressed to eat, but I've never seen the adults who work there mistreating any animal. On the contrary, if you've ever met the Captain, then you know any report of such would be handled swiftly and severely. So, please stop sullying he name of the Cobb Animal Shelter. They are trying their best to fill the gap that the COMMUNITY of Cobb County has created. Spay and neuter your pets ... yes, neuter your pets (those are your dog's testicles, not yours) ... and don't buy while homeless pets die.

Fact: Animals do NOT starve themselves to death, any 'vet' that says this should be fired on the spot!
Fact: Kimi did NOT have worms or any other physical ailments which could have contributed to her drastic weight loss (I have the vet paperwork to prove this - a PROPER vet)
Fact: Not all the cages have feeding instructions on them - I have photographic and video evidence of such that I took only yesterday (Sept 28th)
Fact: There are other emaciated dogs in there that DO wish to eat - I have video evidence of them devouring treats that I gave them when I visited yesterday. I am not going to tell you which dog/s on this post for fear that CCAC will hide them, in lock down (as they have done with the other emaciated dogs all of a sudden) or kill them. However these videos are on the web already.

Frankly I have not the time to play silly political games. I saw, and was made aware of Kimi for the FIRST on Sunday (assuming she was just another owner abuse case). I was appalled to find out that this has happened inside a 'shelter' type facility. I care not what excuses people give - it is unacceptable, period! If this dog was on private property, you can bet someone would have been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

When something is wrong, I say it how it is for the sake of the animals. I have the facts in front of me and will continue to fight until the care of ANY animals (regardless of where they are housed), is up to an acceptable standard for this day and age, in the Western World. Georgia, and other southern states need to open their eyes and see that animals are treated as poorly here as they are in some third world countries.

I have seen this condition a hundred times in shelter dogs. It even happens in bonofide boarding kennels when an owner goes on a long vacation (more than two weeks). The animal goes into shock and they can't or won't eat. In boarding situations it is not uncommon to see staff grind up kibble mix it with some canned food and hand feed the dog. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to do that in an over crowded shelter. Volunteers are overwhelmed by the work needed to keep the kennels sanitary alone. Feeding by hand is just impossble

Guys, all of you provide valid opinions about the animals at the shelter. I greatly respect robbie in that he believes actions speak louder than anonymous words and thus each of us should research the situation for ourselves. There remains only one problem. Recently, all the "emancipated" dogs were moved out of their kennels and into "private observation and monitoring areas". These dogs are no longer visible to the public. I am not claiming that the kennel is trying to hide evidence but I urge you to go and make your own decisions with this in mind. This video was taken withing the past 2 days inside the kennel at run 89 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YOIyhbZ-Gg . The dog was then promptly removed. If this dog, whom I have worked with on the multiple occasions in which i volunteered there is put down, it will serve as further proof of the cruelty which I believe to be going on. Thank you for your time

I greatly respect robbie in that he believes actions speak louder than anonymous words and thus each of us should research the situation for ourselves. There remains only one problem.
Everyone should do their own research and not base their reactions on one article published on the internet. I adopted a beautiful German Shepherd from Cobb County Animal Control a few days ago and the staff and workers were very caring and concerned that he was depressed and off his food. I even got a follow up call from the on staff veterinarian asking how he was doing. Do your own research folks.

This website is a perfect example of how the internet serves to provide a public platform for people who otherwise couldn't organize their thoughts, in order to foist their uninformed, unreasoned, bombastic, lurid agenda on other naive, unquestioning people, who latch onto sensationalism as a form of entertainment. "Nearly dead"? Really? Because I have seen the "nearly dead," and trust me they don't look anything like Kimi does in the "starving" picture. Strangely enough, Mr. Benson doesn't provide a vet report to support his declaration. And any suggestion, large or small, that this shelter is in any way like Auschwitz is vile. Despite his allusions to an erudite background, apparently neither Mr. Benson or many of his "admirers" have ever been to Auschwitz, or can do more than recall some faint, high school history class notion of what happened at Auschwitz. Shame on you. Shame, shame, shame on you. If You the Public have a fervent desire to help animals, be a responsible volunteer. And for God's sake, be a responsible person. Don't take one person's word (or website posting) for it. Use your eyes, your ears, your judgment. Go to the shelter, volunteer, look around, ask questions, listen to lots of people, do the grunt work, take lots of pictures, bring bleach and towels and food. Go to the county government meetings, watch what happens to the budget, demand a fair share for the shelter, and the people who work there. Or maybe some anonymous person with nothing but anecdotal evidence from people they don't know or can identify, could show up at your job and demand you be fired. If you see something that needs to be reported - report it. I don't want to hear that you are afraid. Don't snark around and file some anonymous posting or complaint - you better do it in person, and loudly. But take warning, the rest of us will hold you to it; you don't just get to care about the cute little puppies and kittens. You don't get to create nifty little websites for "cheeky smashups" and self-promotion and call it job done. The rest of us will be watching.

Cobb County is run by a bunch of dirty rotten bas--rds. Excuse me but the county residents are to blame. This abuse is their fault. We must find a way to punish them!

I work/volunteer and am on the BOD of the non profit group that funds my local County animal shelter. WE have our food donated by Purina. We ARE lucky.... BUT..... even if we did not have food donated, all we would need to do is ask the public to donate food, and food would come in! I ask for bleach, and we are loaded with bleach.... All it takes is someone to ask. This is an ANIMAL SHELTER!!! These pets are to be taken care of, fed, and given medical care. IF you are unable to do this... walk on and let someone else do what you can not.....

Using language like "retards" is not helpful. Being a bigot doesn't help care for animals in distress. I'd suggest we be mindful of how our behavior and words affect everyone--people with disabilities, animals, everyone.

I contacted CBS Atlanta this Morning. I have been informed that one of their investigative reporters has been assigned to investigate this issue. I hope these retards at CCAC get the exposure they need and hope for a change for better. Animals deserve better than this.

I did contact Jeff Patellis himself and he has no defense, what does that say to those of you who think that there is nothing wrong here?
How many of you that live in Cobb County, or within driving distance have been in the facility lately and seen how many dogs have actually lost weight - drastically?
Compare them to their petfinder pictures.
And for anyone who claims that 'oh, it is just stress, the dog will not eat under such conditions, right?', then answer me this.. How is it NOT neglect that a dog can lose weight to this extent and it be ignored day in, day out? If this dog were 'stressed' like this in it's home environment, it's owners would and should be charged for cruelty and neglect - then why not CCAC? I cnot only care what caused the dog to get into this state, but also the fact that she DID and it was ignored! That's neglect, that's cruelty, that's an OFFENSE.
