AI & Autonomy

I research autonomous swarms: many uncrewed systems, in every domain, working as one.

Defining a ‘swarm’

“Swarming occurs when numerous independent diverse fully‑autonomous multi‑agentic platforms exhibit highly‑coordinated locomotive, self-organizing, and emergent behaviors in any domain (air, ground, sea, undersea, space), functioning as a single independent logical distributed decentralized decisioning entity with embodied intelligence, agency, and self‑governance for purposes of C3 (command, control, communications) to implement actions that achieve strategic, tactical, or operational effects in the furtherance of human-specified missions with human operators on‑the‑loop and agentic safety guardrails.”

Distributed Embodied Intelligence

Autonomous agentic UxS swarming is distinct from UxS teaming because of its emergent distributed embodied intelligence.

Behavior, Not Numbers

Swarming is defined by behavior, not large numbers. Large numbers alone represent fleets or teams.

Adaptive Decision-Architecture

The uncrewed platform is just a node. The principle value is the coordination, authority, trust, and adaptation architecture.
